The Danish military plans to deploy unarmed soldiers to Ukraine for specialized training in drone warfare tactics, according to Danish army chief Peter Boysen's announcement on TV 2.

The initiative aims to have Danish forces learn directly from Ukrainian military personnel who have gained extensive experience with drone operations during the ongoing conflict. The training program could begin as early as this summer.

Boysen emphasized that Danish soldiers would be stationed far from active combat zones, likely at training facilities in western Ukraine. The Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen has deferred commenting on the plans, noting that such decisions fall under military jurisdiction.

The announcement drew sharp criticism from Russia's diplomatic mission in Copenhagen. Russian Ambassador Vladimir Barbin warned in a written statement that the training program would "draw Denmark deeper into the conflict" and risk "uncontrolled escalation." He also cautioned that all military facilities in Ukraine, including western training centers, remain "legitimate targets" for Russian forces.

Denmark, a founding NATO member, has consistently backed Ukraine since Russia's invasion began. This latest initiative represents another step in Denmark's ongoing support for Ukrainian defense efforts.

The planned deployment highlights the growing importance of drone warfare expertise in modern military operations, as NATO forces seek to learn from Ukraine's battlefield experiences.
