In a serious escalation of tensions along the India-Pakistan border, Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked firing across the International Border in Jammu's Paragwal sector on Tuesday night, marking the first such incident amid ongoing ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC).

The Border Security Force (BSF) swiftly deployed additional personnel to the area following the Pakistani aggression. Indian troops responded strategically while maintaining close communication with the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) regarding the developing situation.

The incident follows six consecutive days of cross-border hostilities, with fresh rounds of firing reported from multiple locations including Naushera, Sunderbani, Akhnoor sector, and districts of Baramulla and Kupwara. Defense sources confirmed having video and photographic evidence identifying approximately 20 Pakistani posts involved in these violations.

The escalation comes in the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in 26 civilian casualties, primarily non-Muslim tourists. The attack was reportedly carried out by Pakistan-based terrorists.

Counter-terrorism operations are currently underway in Anantnag, Pulwama, and Shopian, with security forces conducting extensive searches in high-altitude areas. The Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF are carrying out door-to-door investigations to gather intelligence on terror networks.

April has witnessed a sharp rise in LoC violations, with at least seven documented incidents. These include a mine blast in the Krishna Ghati sector and multiple instances of unprovoked firing across various sectors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who chaired a high-level security review on Tuesday, has granted complete operational freedom to the Indian armed forces to determine the timing, targets, and nature of any retaliatory measures against Pakistan in response to recent provocations.

So far, Pakistani forces have limited their engagement to small arms fire, with no deployment of artillery or air defense systems observed. The situation continues to be closely monitored by Indian security forces.
